and and and...

Master of Fine Arts students Nicola Holden and Yona Lee look at conjunction and conglomeration, construction and building; additive acts of layering, mark-making and assemblage. Yona Lee utilises addition and play resulting in paintings that protrude into space, evade their very frames, slide down the wall and occupy territory. Nicola Holden employs meditative, accumulative gestures and placings to introduce subtle variation and slippages; constructing drawings and objects that draw-out space.

and and and... is a precarious event where gaps are celebrated, paintings stand and drawings are built. It is curated by Art History student Victoria Wynne-Jones.

untitled performance, friday 30 july 2010

people had to walk from victoria st through
what was the independent grocer and
what is now a temporary exhibition space
through all the rubbish at the back entrance,
to the car park out the back.

five cars were parked in a wonky-star formation
with their headlights shining into the middle.
the cars belonged to mums and dads, friends and boyfriends.
(they had to sit in their cars during the performance.)

george spun around in the headlights
until she fell over, onto the bonnet of a car.

a girl spinning in the headlights, slowly at first,
then building up momentum, until she stops.

illumination. action. dizziness.
