one year art projects

perhaps it would be nice to make a drawing/painting each day for a year. one year art projects are pretty amazing. tehching hsieh is truly the master. he didn't make art for a year, lived outside for year, was imprisoned in a cage for a year and was attached to a fellow artist for a year by an eight foot long rope. here is the first drawing, chinese calligraphers have to be able to paint a straight line first of all.

the complexity of simplicity

John Ward Knox's work is beautiful in its restraint and its simplicity, in which only one or two materials seem to act upon one another
tiny grains of sand join together to create a weightiness, indenting a pillow like a sleepy head...
wooden walls become pliable, like loosely draped bed sheets...
a chain and wire are held together in an elegant kind of tension...
His works are simple, understated and perfectly poetic!

swing-song

this is super-swing by agnes so. it reminds me a lot of the mike parr piece, because it is difficult to look at it without imagining a performance of swinging trapeze-like tricks. (I will endeavor to take a better image!!)

I AM (HERE) - variations 1-11

I AM (HERE) - variations 1-11

I Am (Here): Variations 1-11 is an attempt to capture the fleeting rhythms and beauty that exist outside one's own bedroom windows. It could be described as "domestic portraiture".

The overall aesthetic is a lo-fi meditation on time and place, it tries to capture the look, feel and spirit of polaroid snapshots. The video draws inspiration from Pascal (Pensées), Xavier de Maistre (Journey Around My Room), John Cage (Silence) and Tarkovsky's polaroids (Instant Light).

Video Info: Shot on a sharp viewcam (hi-8mm - analog) with direct mic sound only (the music by Debussy was recorded live while shooting), all effects were achieved 'in-camera' and nature did the rest ...
