the return of the ballet shoes

here are some more pictures of lisa benson's installations, this time the shoes are lurking in port chalmers, I believe... the low-fi-ness is quite lovely...

point, turn, stop.

it is often the case, when stumbling under cascades of instances of bad art, that one cannot hope but despair. at times like this, perhaps it is helpful to remember previous works that succeeded in evoking a sharp intake of breath and a small glisten of hope. it is important to remember such works. here are some images from "shift" by lisa benson.

"hours of movement collected here. the reciprocity of action shifts through spaces and time. lightness - weight - presence. 100 dead royal new zealand ballet slippers."

this was exhibited at the waikato museum of art and history around 2003-ish.

thriftiness is next to godliness?

this handsome, autumnal crown lynn jug was found today at the antique alley on dominion road. ooo it would be lovely if it were an actual alley full of antique shops, alas it is just a charming little store. this jug will be used for iced water when I have guests... although I fancy if I one day buy a bottle of whiskey, I could also use it to put water in whiskey too... I found lots of other treats today, but if you'd like to see them you have to come over for tea.

blue man

hello there! here is a man painted on the pavement in wellington. I remember taking this photograph back in december and I thought it was funny because it reminded me of the outlines they draw where someone has died. he kind of looks like he died laughing... and waving hello/goodbye...

I know I promised, but...

I know I promised to not use other people's images, but I find this guatemalan sink-hole strangely compelling and terrifying...
